Nearing the end for Fotographia and good news with Giornalismo

October 16, 2015 • Fotographia , Giornalismo

It’s been a busy and fun last couple of weeks of web development for me.

Last week, Giornalismo was accepted into the WordPress Theme Directory and with it comes the end of just over a year’s worth of work on the theme. That has also led to really good development with Fotographia.

Playing the waiting game

July 31, 2015 • Giornalismo , Nuovo

So this past week has been a pretty good week with the WordPress theme development. Since this time last week, I’ve submitted Giornalismo for the theme review to get into the WordPress Theme Directory as well as the Nuovo 2.0 update. That has gotten a lot off of my plate development-wise, but now comes the not-so-fun part: waiting.

A soft opening for Giornalismo

June 26, 2015 • Giornalismo

Roughly 10 months after sketching it out in a journal and just barely starting writing the code, the heavy duty development with Giornalismo is over.

Complete style change for Giornalismo

June 18, 2015 • Giornalismo

So after the success of Nuovo and the JM Breaking News plugin, I’ve restarted working on Giornalismo full time. I ended up getting a ton fixed on it over the past couple of days, but no one change was bigger than the font and a slight color change.

So the semester has ended for me and with it comes more time to do stuff. With the extra time, I started the re-coding for Giornalismo.

An unforseen diversion

April 24, 2015 • Giornalismo , Nuovo

So everything has been moving at a snail’s pace for Giornalismo, primarily due to my busy schedule, but Thursday things came to an interesting halt.

The folks who run and maintain WordPress and the WordPress directory made it official that all themes will have the use the WordPress Customizer instead of creating separate theme options page.

Well shoot, right after I had finally finished learning how to make a really good theme options page, I can no longer use what I learned. Rats.

Moving on to the Giornalismo redesign

April 16, 2015 • Giornalismo

So another week has gone by and there’s still no news for the Nuovo theme either being ready for the WordPress theme directory or needing more fixes.

But in the meantime I’ve made the decision to go ahead with the re-write for Giornalismo.

Giving the user a helping hand

January 16, 2015 • Giornalismo

You never really know who might be using your theme. It could be a hard-core coder who knows all of the ins and outs of creating a spectacularly looking post, or it could be someone who only knows how to use a word processor.

So with that in mind, one of the features I wanted to put into Giornalismo was the ability to use shortcodes so that the user can have cool looking parts of his/her post with minimal coding on their part.
